Nevertheless, the Prime Minister devoted considerable time to highlighting government initiatives and schemes while barely touching upon pressing concerns such as climate change, inequality, and social justice.

This silence is striking given the recent floods and landslides that have ravaged parts of India, displacing thousands of families. The nation’s 80th Independence Day celebrations were accompanied by a sea of dignitaries from diverse backgrounds – beneficiaries of government schemes, entrepreneurs, innovators, and scientists. However, the event underscored the disconnect between the government’s rhetoric and the harsh realities faced by many Indians.
